Formed in 1804 from Kanawha County, Virginia, Mason County was first surveyed in 1772. The Kanawha River flows
through Mason County to its end where it reaches the mighty Ohio River. The town that sits at the point where the
Kanawha meets the Ohio is Point Pleasant (pop. 6,000) county seat of Mason County.
