West Virginia University: Senior Lecturer in International Relations/National Security Studies
The Department of Political Science announces a new senior lecturer position in International Politics with an emphasis on National Security Studies. The person filling this position is expected to have a Ph.D. in Political Science with a focus on national security affairs. The position is designed to enhance the National Security track (in both diplomacy and intelligence) in the International Studies Program as well as to contribute to the international politics and world affairs track in the Department of Political Science.
There are several components to this position. First, this faculty member will be expected to have a record of excellence as undergraduate teacher and will take key responsibility for the Department's entry level course of POLS103 Global Political Issues. This will involve the regular teaching of a large section of this course, as well as the development of a new on-line, web-based version of the course to be taught through extended learning. Second, this faculty member will also be expected to offer undergraduate courses to enrich the national security curriculum. One of these will be an "introduction to national security" course, while other needs are for advanced courses in contemporary ("21st Century") international conflict and in the role of intelligence in decision making. The faculty member will also be qualified to support, when necessary, the program's courses in both research methods and in methods of intelligence analysis. Third, the faculty member will also be expected to be involved in the development of an international conflict/foreign policy decision making "simulation" course. There will also be opportunities for this senior lecturer to be engaged in the development of study abroad programs for relevant regions. Finally, although this position is not a conventional research position, the faculty member holding this position will be expected to be active in the Department's pursuit of externally funded research in the areas of national security studies.
Persons interested in this position are encouraged to submit a letter of interest, a vita, an academic transcript, and names of three references to Professor Joe D. Hagan, Chair, Department of Political Science, 316 Woodburn Hall, West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV 26505. Alternatively, materials can be sent via email to jhagan@wvu.edu. The search committee will begin considering applications after May 12, 2007.
