Since its inception, FACDIS has clung to improving course syllabi as the "royal road"
to verifiable course enhancement. By demonstrating progress via comparisons of pre- and post-project syllabi, accountability
has coalesced around the task of improving course syllabi. Few other documents provide such revealing snapshots
of the content and process at work in higher education classrooms. On our web site, the consortium seeks to share
relevant resources with academic colleagues. Instructors can access useful nuts-and-bolts syllabus outlines by
following the links to syllabus-related websites from other institutions (Create a Syllabus). FACDIS colleague, Michael Strada, has written three articles dealing with the importance of improving course syllabi. The articles, all published in 2000 and 2001 in national journals, can be accessed here by clicking on Michael Strada's Articles on Syllabi. The 23-page syllabus (including lesson plans) for Mike Strada's course, "Global Issues: An Introduction to the Social Sciences," is also available here, as are exemplary syllabi from other professors (both within FACDIS and without). Please send us your best efforts so we can add your syllabus to the web site. |
