Using StatTransfer5

Converting data files to be read into Stata 6.0 or 7.0 is quite easy with StatTransfer5. The software has been installed on the first machine on the right in the Political Science Dept. lab (Labeled Machine #8 for some reason)

Locate the StatTransfer5 icon.

Double-click to execute it and the following window opens.

The program is quite easy to use. Indicate the type of data file you wish to input, and then use the Browse button to find it with a file dialogue box. Then set the output file type. Note that Stata 7.0 can read Stata 6.0 file types. Once you set the output file type, the appropriate extension is added to the original file name and the same directory is used as the default. Simply click the Transfer button to create the data set. It automaticly is saved in the output directory.

This software works for a wide variety of data types. It also can be used to create subsets of a larger data set by using some of the options tabs.
