This segment of the major is the most substantial and has the student specialize in either one of two types
areas of emphasis: "regional" tracks and "global affairs" tracks. However, because there is
usually some "overlap" in the courses required for the regional and global affairs tracks, interested
students often concentrate in dual tracks, e.g., international busines and East Asia or environmental issues with
respect to Latin America.
Regional tracks are focused on the history, culture, politics, and economics of a particular region. Students concentrating
in one of these area are required to pursue advanced foreign language appropriate to the region and, ideally, have
a study abroad experience in that region. The areas we offer are:
Global Affairs tracks are broadly focused on the complexity of international/ transnational relations with respect
to a particular set of issues in global affairs. Each global affairs track requires the student to take general
skills courses associated with that area of international affairs. The tracks currently offered are:
